Science

scienceHelfrich Park STEM Academy has an exceptional science program. Following the EVSC curriculum guide, students explore Indiana state standards for grades 6, 7, and 8. Students are encouraged to use the scientific method and design process while learning and exploring new science topics throughout the year. Students are given the opportunity to use 21st century skills and learn science through real-life applications.
As a STEM Academy, Helfrich Park is proud to offer one hour math and science instruction to each student everyday. This extended time further enhances a child's education in these areas.

Advanced science students will find a variety of offerings. Sixth graders are offered a honors curriculum that combines entrepreneurial and engineering opportunities that partner with Berry Global and Junior Achievement. Advanced seventh graders are offered a honors curriculum that connects 7th grade earth science standards to produce an exhibit/educational kit for others. Eighth grade honors provides students the opportunity to deepen the knowledge of chemistry that they have been learning in the classroom with the University of Southern Indiana's "You be the Chemist" challenge.

Additional opportunities and accolades include:
• School wide science fair

• participation in the EVSC Regional Science Academic Super Bowl - 2018 2nd place at state

• field trips to The University of Southern Indiana where all students complete a lab taught by a professor.

• the annual 6th grade Land between the Lakes field trip. As part of the project, students examine nature and extend their classroom
knowledge.

• science class community partners: University of Southern Indiana, Berry Global, Alcoa Warrick Operations, Junior Achievement, Evansville Museum, and CountryMark.
