ELA classes at Helfrich Park STEM Academy have a strong emphasis on Indiana Standards for writing and reading. Students write for a variety of reasons and audiences. Among the various writing genres addressed are narrative, descriptive, expository, and persuasive. Grammar is taught to support the writing skills. In literature novels and various texts are used to build fluency and comprehension. Teachers in these classes use available data to develop and enhance the curriculum.
