Cadet Orchestra

The Cadet Orchestra in an intermediate-level orchestra (grade 6 and 7). This course is offered as a continuation for students with previous orchestral experience. Educational emphasis is placed on the advancement of instrumental technique, further development of music reading and comprehension skills, and a deeper understanding of musicianship and style through the study of string orchestra repertoire. Concert Orchestra is a performance-based class. Students will perform both in small group ensembles and as a large group. The Concert Orchestra will rehearse and perform outside of class on a regular basis. Participation in the ISSMA Solo and Ensemble and Organizational Contest may be expected. These are included in the grading requirements of this course. Individual practice outside of class is necessary for successful mastery of performance standards. Prerequisites: Previous orchestra experience or teacher recommendation.

Varsity Orchestra

The Varsity Orchestra is an advanced-level orchestra (grade 7 and 8). This ensemble is intended to prepare students for high school orchestra. The ensemble will focus on the continued development and refinement of advanced performing and ensemble skills. Students will perform both in small group ensembles and as a large group. The Varsity Orchestra will rehearse and perform outside of class on a regular basis. Participation in the ISSMA Solo and Ensemble and Organizational Contest may be expected. These are included in the grading requirements of this course. Individual practice outside of class is necessary for successful mastery of performance standards. Prerequisites: Audition, previous orchestra experience, or teacher recommendation.

Symphony Orchestra

Symphony Orchestra is an optional after school orchestra for all grades. This ensemble is intended to prepare students for EVSC Honors Orchestra, EPYO I and II, and High School Orchestra. The ensemble will focus on the development and refinement of skills needed to play advanced literature. The Symphony Orchestra will meet one day after school for 2 hours a week. Participation in concerts outside of school may be offered for the large group or smaller groups. Individual practice outside of class is necessary for successful mastery of performance standards. Prerequisites: Audition, pervious orchestra experience, private lessons, or teacher recommendation.
